Two police dogs from Sonoma County retired after years of service

Two Sonoma County police dogs recently completed their final shift.

Max of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and Kane of the Santa Rosa Police Department retired this month. Both were announced on social media.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office thanked Max for his service in a Facebook post on August 10. His last day of work was August 5.

Max, originally from Mexico, joined the office in March 2016 at 13 months old. During his eight and a half years of service, he was trained in drug recognition, suspect location and apprehension. Max worked for a time with the SWAT team, where he helped with 157 arrests, according to the post.

Kane’s retirement from the Santa Rosa Police Department was announced in a Facebook post on August 14.

The nine-year-old Belgian Malinois spent six years alongside Officer Garrett Berg.

“Kane’s retirement plans include spending time with his human family, chewing on all the kids’ toys, and running around the beach every chance he gets,” police said in the post.

According to the article, Kane and Breg “have invested thousands of hours in rigorous training and have consistently demonstrated a high level of competency in protecting handlers, apprehending suspects and detecting narcotics.”

Both dogs were wished all the best for their retirement.
