Two brides realize at first glance that they bought the same wedding dress (exclusive)

  • McKenzie Ball and Erin Ball bought dresses separately before their wedding on June 8
  • At their first glance, the couple was shocked to see that they had chosen similar white lace dresses.
  • “We always agree on things, so it was no surprise to anyone that we had similar dresses,” McKenzie tells PEOPLE.

It was their wedding day, Saturday, June 8, and McKenzie Ball and Erin Ball stood back to back holding hands.

The couple, who first met on social media, had been eagerly awaiting this moment – their first look before they walked down the aisle and said “I do.”

Before their wedding at Candies Creek Farm in Georgetown, Tennessee, the couple intentionally kept the details of their dresses private from each other. McKenzie, 27, chose her dress at The Ritz in Portsmouth, Ohio – a full-circle moment for the area security manager, who also bought her prom and evening dresses in high school at the store.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Erin purchased the first dress she tried on at David’s Bridal in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

When McKenzie went shopping for the first time, she admits she didn’t know what style she wanted, other than that it had to fit. “Honestly, what I picked out was more extravagant than I expected,” McKenzie says.

Erin knew exactly what she was looking for before she even started her search: a figure-hugging dress with lace. “I had a clear picture in my head,” says Erin. “I went in just to look around and walked out with my dress on without thinking about it.”

After months of anticipation and keeping their dresses under wraps, the moment of the reveal finally arrived. When the couple turned around, their jaws dropped. Their white lace dresses were almost identical.

“I was still trying to process the whole moment,” McKenzie tells PEOPLE. “We hadn’t seen each other all day and the adrenaline was pumping. I just remember Erin shouting, ‘That’s my dress!’ Then I realized they were very, very similar – the V-neck, the lace, the fit, everything.”

“We always agree on things, so it was no surprise to anyone that we had similar dresses,” McKenzie continues. “We just asked our bridesmaids to make sure their dresses matched, and they really did!”

Erin adds, “I thought she had chosen a simpler style, without lace, so I was speechless that we were actually able to pick out something similar when we went to different stores in different states!”

Despite the initial shock, Erin wasn’t completely surprised. Over the years, she says, her style has become more like McKenzie’s.

“We have this unintentional but consistent habit of matching and coordinating our outfits,” she explains. “Kenzie had originally picked out a dress for our bridal party that was identical to mine, but she ended up changing it.”

“We always seem to somehow fit together and align without planning it. At this point, we just expect it to happen,” McKenzie continues.

A month after their wedding, Erin decided to share the couple’s sweet reaction video to their first look on TikTok. She loves sharing sweet moments of herself and McKenzie on social media and thought others would appreciate the video, too.

It didn’t take long for others to share the couple’s excitement. Just a week after posting, the video went viral, reaching over 5.6 million views.

“I actually didn’t know Erin had posted the video on TikTok until she texted me saying she was ‘going crazy on TikTok,'” McKenzie says. “I had to ask, ‘Of what?’ I didn’t have TikTok at the time, so she kept me updated on all the views. She, my mom, and my sister kept sending us updates in our group chat. We were all freaking out. It’s a crazy feeling knowing that so many people have seen the video of us!”

“We obviously wanted it to be a surprise, and that obviously worked!” adds Erin.
