TV series with mockumentary about Huey Lewis in the works

Last year Huey Lewis appeared in the Emmy-nominated Netflix documentary Pop’s biggest night and he saw the premiere of a musical based on his songs on Broadway. Now he’s working on a television project that’s moving forward.

Deadline reports that Huey will star and serve as executive producer Whatever happened to Huey Lewis, a half-hour mockumentary series in which he plays a fictionalized version of himself, like Larry David played a version of himself in Curb your enthusiasm.

The series follows Huey as he tries to figure out his next step after losing his hearing, which he actually did. In 2018, he announced that he Meniere’s diseasewhich has damaged his hearing to the point where he can no longer sing. According to deadline, The story will also focus on Huey’s “co-dependent family and his eccentric celebrity friends.”

Deadline reported that the show, written by Kirk Butlerwhose credits include Hulu Only murders in the building, is in development at Fox.

By the way, Deadline reported in 2021 that Lewis had another show in development at Fox, produced by the same production company: an anthology series in which each self-contained episode would be produced by a Huey Lewis and the news Song. This show was conceived as a tribute to the romantic comedies of the 80s and 90s. It is not clear if and when this might appear.
