Trump tries to link Harris to Diddy’s alleged ‘freak offs’ using a fake picture

Donald Trump, who is accustomed to carelessly sharing fake images on social media, posted a doctored image falsely showing Kamala Harris with Sean “Diddy” Combs, raising questions about whether she attended the rapper’s “freak offs,” events at which he allegedly forced victims to perform sexual acts over extended periods of time, according to federal prosecutors.

The now-deleted post on Truth Social used a 2001 photo showing the Democratic candidate with Montel Williams, whom she was dating at the time, and his daughter. Combs’ head was superimposed over Williams’ face, and text on the photo asked if Harris “had been involved in or participated in Combs’ alleged ‘outbursts.'”

Combs, who has denied any wrongdoing in a series of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct lawsuits in recent months, was arrested Monday and charged with organized crime, sex trafficking and transportation for the purpose of prostitution. Among other incriminating allegations in the federal indictment, Combs is accused of forcing victims to perform sexual acts with male sex workers for hours or days at a time, which he recorded. He has pleaded not guilty.

As NBC News pointed out, both Trump and Harris have interacted with Combs in the past. Both have also publicly praised him before; Harris praised the rapper for hosting a town hall meeting on the impact of coronavirus on black communities in 2020, and in 2012 Trump called Combs a “good guy” and “a good friend of mine.”

Fake images, particularly AI-generated images, are flooding social media this election. Many of these images contain misinformation about one candidate or another. Trump has capitalized on this content in recent months, sharing AI-generated images on social media for which he later took no responsibility, even as he accused the Harris campaign of “fraud” and used crowd photos he said were fake (which they are not). His attempt to link his election opponent to one of the more horrific allegations federal prosecutors have made against Combs is the latest example of him spreading misinformation on social media.

Harris’ campaign declined to comment on Trump’s repost. Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment.
