Trump thanks Brittany Mahomes for her “defense.” Taylor Swift fans will surely notice.

Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday thanked Brittany Mahomes, best known as the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, for “defending” him after her apparent online support for him sparked a social media stir last month.

In a post on his social media site Truth Social, the Republican presidential candidate said it was “nice” to see the “gorgeous” Brittany Mahomes “wanting to save the United States from ruin.”

“What a great couple,” Trump said of the Mahomeses. “See you both at the Super Bowl!”

The statement is likely to cause consternation among Taylor Swift fans, as the pop icon has had a close relationship with the Mahomeses since her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The Mahomeses were spotted at Swift’s Rhode Island mansion last month along with Swift, Kelce and Hollywood power couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

Brittany Mahomes caused a stir online last month when her Instagram account liked (and later unliked) a post by Trump outlining his 2024 platform. Apparently responding to the backlash against her Instagram activity, Mahomes condemned the haters: “There is no reason why your brain is fully developed and you hate when other people do well.” She seemed to up the ante by liking a pro-Trump comment under one of her posts.

Mahomes’ apparent support for Trump stands in stark contrast to Swift’s previous political leanings. The “Fortnight” singer endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s slate of candidates in 2020. Democrats and some members of Swift’s massive fan base are hoping she will publicly endorse Harris for president this year. (There was speculation that Swift or Beyoncé would perform at the Democratic National Convention last month, but those rumors were false.)

But Mahomes doesn’t seem too worried about any bad blood with Swift over their apparent political differences. Last week, she posted a message that said, “Contrary to the tone of the world today… You can disagree with someone and still love them. You can have different views and still be kind.”
