Trump shares fake photo of Harris with Diddy in now-deleted Truth Social post

Following recent news of the arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs, former President Donald Trump released a doctored image falsely showing Vice President Kamala Harris with Combs, with caption questioning whether she was involved in his alleged “outbursts.”

The image, which Trump reposted on his Truth Social profile, is an edited version of a 2001 photo showing Harris with former talk show host Montel Williams, whom she briefly dated, and his daughter Ashley. In the edit, Montel Williams’ face was replaced with a photo of Combs.

It’s not the first time the Republican presidential candidate has released a fake image to bolster his campaign. Trump has posted several AI-generated images, including some that falsely show Taylor Swift and her fans supporting him and one showing Harris speaking to a crowd of communists during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The Harris campaign declined to comment. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Combs was arrested on Monday. He is accused of sex trafficking, organized crime and solicitation for the purpose of prostitution. The charges came after months of legal proceedings against the rap music mogul. Cassie, a singer and former girlfriend of Combs, sued Combs in November 2023 for physical abuse and rape. Combs denied Cassie’s claims and the two reached a settlement shortly after the lawsuit was filed.

The indictment details “freak offs,” which prosecutors say were sexual acts that Combs forced victims to perform over hours and days. Prosecutors allege that some of these acts involved commercial sex workers and that narcotics were used to keep victims “obedient and submissive.”

Both candidates have previously interacted publicly with Combs. In a 2020 X-post, Harris praised Combs for a town hall meeting he led on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on black communities.

Old photos of Trump with Combs have been viewed over 1 million times on X. Jimmy Kimmel also drew attention to Trump’s past comments about Combs on his talk show. Kimmel aired a clip in a 2012 episode of “Celebrity Apprentice” in which Trump calls Combs a “good friend of mine, he’s a good guy.”

Others have used fake media to undermine the Harris-Waltz campaign. Microsoft identified at least three Russian disinformation actors who have targeted the campaign with fake videos. Meanwhile, Elon Musk, who endorsed Trump in July, shared a fake Harris ad that uses a doctored version of the vice president’s voice.
