Trump said that Mark Zuckerberg told him after the assassination attempt: “There is no way I can vote for a Democrat.” But Zuckerberg contradicts this statement.

  • Trump claimed that Mark Zuckerberg told him: “There is no way I can vote for a Democrat.”

  • He said Zuckerberg made the remarks in a phone call after his assassination attempt.

  • A Meta spokesperson said this was not true and Zuckerberg does not endorse anyone.

Former President Donald Trump strongly hinted that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg would vote for him in the 2024 election.

In an interview with New York Magazine published Monday, Trump said Zuckerberg made the remarks in a phone call after a gunman attempted to assassinate Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July.

“Mark Zuckerberg called and said, ‘I’ve never supported a Republican, but there’s no way I’m voting for a Democrat in this election,'” Trump told the outlet.

“He’s a guy whose parents, all of them, were always Democrats. He said, ‘I’m never going to vote for the people that are running against you after I saw what you did,'” Trump continued. “I mean, people really appreciated that.”

A Meta spokesman said this was not true – and Zuckerberg would not support Trump or his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, this year.

“As Mark has stated publicly, he is not endorsing anyone in this race and has not told anyone how he plans to vote,” the outlet’s spokesperson said.

Zuckerberg, however, praised Trump’s response to the assassination attempt, calling it “rad” in an interview in July.

“For me personally, seeing Donald Trump stand up after being shot in the face and put his fist in the air with the American flag is one of the most sickening things I’ve ever seen in my life,” Zuckerberg said at the time. “And I think: On some level, it’s hard for an American not to get emotional when you look at that spirit and that fight, and I think that’s why a lot of people like the guy.”

In the same interview in July, Zuckerberg said he would refrain from “endorsing either candidate.”

Trump and Zuckerberg have long had a complicated relationship. In a forthcoming book, Trump wrote that the Meta CEO would “spend the rest of his life in prison” if he did “anything illegal” in the upcoming election.

He also railed against Zuckerberg and Meta for locking his Facebook account following the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.
