Trump predicted that New York Mayor Adams would be impeached last year; accuses “dirty players” in DOJ

Former President Trump said he expects New York Mayor Eric Adams to be indicted within a year, while calling for the need for an honest Justice Department.

Trump spoke to reporters at Trump Tower in New York City on Thursday afternoon and then asked several questions on topics such as the war in Ukraine, Iran and the indictment of Adams, who was indicted by one The Manhattan Grand Jury on federal criminal charges Wednesday following a campaign corruption investigation.

A reporter asked whether Trump believed Adams would get a fair trial, and Trump replied that he didn’t know.

Trump said he didn’t know Adams very well and even acknowledged that the current mayor had been generous in his comments toward Trump. The “worst mayor of all time,” Trump claimed, was former Mayor Bill de Blasio, who served this term before Adams.

“I will say this. “I watched about a year ago as (Adams) talked about how the illegal migrants are hurting our city and the federal government should pay us and we shouldn’t have to take them in,” Trump said. “I said, ‘You know what? He will be charged within a year.’ And I was exactly right because that’s what we have.”

“We have people using the Justice Department and the FBI on an unprecedented scale,” Trump added, wishing Adams good luck.

Trump admitted he knew nothing about what Adams had done to be impeached, but a group in the room told Trump he was right in his prediction.

On Wednesday, the mayor was indicted on one count of conspiracy to obtain campaign contributions from foreign nationals and committing wire fraud and bribery, one count of wire fraud, two counts of soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals and one count of soliciting and accepting Accused of taking bribes.

Trump continued to talk about the immigration problem, which Adams spoke ill of, and called on federal officials to pay New York City to deal with the problem.

“He said it was really unfair to put this burden on us. We shouldn’t do that. This is New York City,” Trump said.

The parks are crowded, said Trump, a former city resident, adding that he recently passed the Roosevelt Hotel and it was unrecognizable.

“(Adams) strongly opposed it. By the way, he was right because it is ruining our country,” he said. “He was honest and I said he would be charged within a year. And that’s exactly what happened.”

Trump said the charges were a long time ago and compared them to when he was indicted in New York City.

The prosecutor’s office ensured that the charges were filed in both cases before the statute of limitations expired, Trump noted.

“That’s what they do. These are dirty players. These are bad people,” Trump said. “They cheat and do whatever it takes. These are bad people. And we need an honest Justice Department. We need an honest FBI, and we need it fast.”

The FBI has reportedly been investigating whether Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign worked with the Turkish government and other organizations to raise funds. Some New York officials were also under investigation for possible investigations into contacts with China.

The alleged fraud resulted in more public funds being raised for the mayor’s campaign through a scheme that supplements small donations with matching grants of up to $2,000 supported by taxpayers, the indictment says . According to court documents, a donation of just $250 from an individual could provide a candidate with up to $2,000 in “matching funds” from taxpayers. It happened so frequently that Adams reportedly received $10 million from the program.

In addition to campaign contributions, Adams reportedly received other perks such as free flights on Turkish Airlines to destinations in Europe and Asia, free hotel stays and free fine dining meals. In one case, he allegedly asked to fly on a Turkish jet to Chile’s Easter Island – but was unable to do so because it did not offer a connection between New York and the South American country.
