The driver of a box truck who Maine State Police said fell asleep at the wheel Friday afternoon was injured in a rollover crash on northbound Interstate 95 in Sidney.
State police responded to reports of a pickup truck driving erratically near mile marker 112 around 3 p.m. Friday. Shortly thereafter, emergency crews received calls reporting that the truck had crashed into the median in Sidney at mile marker 118.
Ashley Peters, 42, of Ellsworth, fell asleep behind the wheel of the Eastern Mold Remediation box truck, police Lt. Aaron Turcotte said. The truck veered into the center lane, struck a tree and overturned on its passenger side.
Peters was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Turcotte said. She was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
During the investigation, portions of northbound I-95 were closed to one lane for about three hours on Friday.
