Truck detour and intersection improvements announced for Five-Points Intersection

MONTGOMERY TWP, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a detour for trucks on westbound Route 463 (Horsham Road) as part of a major traffic and safety improvement project at the Five-Points Intersection in Montgomery Township, Montgomery County.

Beginning Monday, August 19, and continuing through spring 2025, trucks traveling westbound on Route 463 will no longer be able to make right turns onto Business US 202 (Doylestown Road). Trucks will be detoured onto US 202 Parkway and County Line Road. This detour is necessary for the reconstruction and widening of the intersection.

In addition, the Five-Points Intersection will be closed from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 25, for the removal of large overhead signs.

The intersection improvement project will add through lanes on Route 463 and Route 309 southbound (Bethlehem Pike), increasing the number of access lanes from 15 to 18. These changes are aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing accidents. Other improvements include signaling improvements, installation of sidewalks and ADA curb ramps, improved guardrails, stormwater drainage improvements, new signage and pavement markings.

Drivers should expect congestion and delays and allow additional travel time. All activities are weather dependent.
