Tropical Storm Helene will strike overnight

The tropical storm warning remains in effect
UPDATE: 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2024

Alpharetta will feel the effects of Hurricane Helene around midnight, with the main storm moving into the area around 3:00 a.m. Prepare for dangerous, sustained tropical storm force winds.

* Sustained winds of 65 mph with gusts between 58 and 73 mph across our area.
* Large-scale and longer power outages are to be expected due to fallen trees.
* Heavy rain can lead to flash flooding.

We urge all residents to prioritize safety during and after Hurricane Helene. Here are some things you can do:

Stay informed
Follow trusted sources like the National Weather Service, the City of Alpharetta and local news for the latest information. The City will update our website (www.alpharetta.ga.us) and social media accounts (Facebook, Nextdoor, Twitter) throughout the storm event. Be sure to follow the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety on these social media platforms for real-time updates and safety tips.

Stay inside
Avoid unnecessary travel and stay off the roads during and immediately after the storm so that emergency responders and utility personnel can arrive and operate quickly. The strong winds expected from this storm can throw debris with enough force to cause serious injury, and downed power lines pose a risk of electrocution.

Avoid flood areas
Never drive through flooded roads. “Turn around, don’t drown.”

ONLY CALL 911 FOR LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCIES
Do not call 911 to report fallen trees, power outages, or other non-life-threatening situations. If you need police or fire services for non-life-threatening issues, call 678-297-6300. To report other issues, use our SeeClickFix app, available on your smartphone or through the City website (https://www.alpharetta.ga.us/about/tools-available/seeclickfix).
