LIVERMORE, Calif. – The Bay Area is in for a very hot start to October. Some of the hottest places will be in the East Bay and Tri-Valley, where temperatures are expected to reach triple digits.

Beneath the blazing sun and a sizzling grill, William Galvan Felipe battled the extreme heat on Monday.

An excessive heat warning was in effect as he tried to keep up with the steady stream of orders in downtown Livermore.

“It’s obviously very complicated, with the heat it’s super hot all the time,” he said through an interpreter. “But at the end of the day we are very happy that people are lining up in the stands… and at the end of the day we are Mexican and it’s in our blood – it works.”

Galvan Felipe said the newly established stand called Dylan’s Tacos at the corner of Railroad Avenue and South L Street will be open seven days a week.

“No matter whether it’s hot or cold, we’re here to feed people,” he said.

Kyle Cairel, who delivers via Uber Eats by bike, said he leaves early in the morning on particularly hot days.

“I have to make sure I bring water and everything and I don’t get a lot of orders because I’m on my bike…so I made $0 today,” Cairel said.

Families gathered near the First Street fountain to cool off while others ate or drank outside in the evening.

“That’s easy, that’s nice, when it’s really hot a lot of people aren’t going to be out here,” Livermore resident Ricky Gonzalez said of Monday’s heat.

Lindsay Bicker said her family received a text message from AT&T alerting them to a possible public safety power shutoff in the area.

“If we could jump in our neighbor’s pool, that would be great, turn on the sprinkler system and just pray that there’s not a power outage because we need the air conditioning,” Bicker said.

Dog owners also told us they were heading out later than usual.

“She’s very demanding, so I usually walk her four or five times a day, but I literally had to wait until the sun went down a little bit, it’s just too hot,” Jill Scott said of her dog Bose.
