Trees for Babies: Bayside | Mirage News

Bayside Council works closely with Bayside Garden Centre to provide native trees to residents who wish to mark the birth, adoption or guardianship of a child by planting a tree in their garden.

The initiative is designed to encourage local residents to plant and care for a native tree in their yard that will grow with their child while helping to increase the tree canopy in Bayside.

Eligible residents can complete a form on the Council website to receive a $20 voucher towards the purchase of a suitable tree at Bayside Garden Centre.

The local council also provides a commemorative letter with a list of suitable trees to plant in the front or back yard, as well as a temporary tree memorial sign.

Increasing Bayside’s green tree canopy can also help mitigate the effects of flooding and heat, as a mature tree can capture 3,400 litres of rainwater and filter 27 kg of pollutants.

The trees are supplied by the Bayside Garden Centre, which is open to the public and has around 80,000 plants for sale.
