Tree collection point in Woods Park remains open after fire | KLIN

The Parks and Recreation Department says the storm debris collection site at Woods Park is still open after LFR crews were called to extinguish a fire early Tuesday morning. It’s not known how the fire started, but park director Maggie Stuckey-Ross is grateful for the firefighters’ quick response.

“Many utilized our waste collection sites following the July 31 storm. Parks and Forestry staff continue to work to consolidate collection sites while other staff are processing each of the more than 1,000 reports of tree problems. We are grateful to the community for their support and patience.”

Three trash collection sites will remain open through August 19, and residents can dispose of storm debris for free at Star City Shores, Woods Park and Oak Lake Park. The Parks Department is offering free wood chip mulch to residents on a first-come, first-served basis at the Bowling Lake Park parking lot at NW 48th and West Cuming Streets, the Fleming Fields parking lot at 31st and Leighton Avenues, and Holmes Lake Park.

Grinding operations will continue at the Holmes Lake site and then move to Woods Park. When grinding operations at Woods Park are completed, crews will move to Oak Lake Park. Crews are expected to begin transporting tree debris from the Seng Park site to the Star City Shores collection point on Wednesday.
