Travis Kelce was criticized by a sports analyst for “partying all offseason” with Taylor Swift

Former ESPN analyst Todd McShay blames Travis Kelce’s slow start to the season on his newfound fame and “jet-setting” lifestyle.

During an appearance on The Ryen Russillo Podcast on Monday, McShay didn’t mince his words when discussing Kelce’s lackluster performance in the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Atlanta Falcons, in which he recorded four receptions for just 30 yards.

“Every show I watch, every pregame show, every halftime show, every postgame show, every show I’ve seen in the last few weeks, it’s like we don’t “Are you allowed to say he’s out of shape?” McShay asked bluntly.

“That he partied all offseason? He’s been flying around with probably the most famous person in the world,” the analyst added, referencing Kelce’s romance with Taylor Swift.

As an example, McShay pointed to the pair’s long weekend in New York City, where they were seen “drinking” and having fun after the Chiefs’ game against the Baltimore Ravens at the US Open.

“I want you to take a photo from the 2022 preseason and then a photo from the 2024 preseason, they are hardly the same person,” the former ESPN commentator said.

McShay also dismissed claims that Kelce’s lack of production was due to defenses double-teaming him, which he said has been the case throughout his career.

“Here’s the thing with Kelce: The coverage and respect he gets is the same, but the athlete isn’t.”

Despite his concerns about Kelce’s conditioning, McShay noted that the three-time Super Bowl champion will bounce back eventually.

“Will he get into shape as the season progresses? Yes, I’m sure he will,” he said. “He’s an incredible competitor, he’s one of the best there’s ever been, and he still finds a way to make a play or two here and there and shows up in some crucial moments, but right now he’s not more of the same guy.”

Kelce, 34, has eight receptions for 69 yards since the season began earlier this month. He hasn’t scored a touchdown yet.

In comparison, Kelce had 17 receptions for 155 yards and two touchdowns in his third game last year. Also in 2022, the tight end recorded 17 catches for 230 yards and two touchdowns.

“I don’t see the same explosiveness, I see him fading a little bit in games, it’s fine, he’ll get back into shape, it’s not the first player ever that’s not quite in elite form, that he was,” McShay said.

Despite his criticism, the sports reporter made it clear that he “doesn’t blame” Swift for Kelce’s performance.

“I think Kelce is doing more commercials and other things, he’s been to more events and doing more social things,” he explained.

“It is impossible to keep this schedule and still dedicate the same amount of time to football,” he concluded.

During the offseason, Kelce traveled to seven different countries to support the pop star on his international tour. He also landed a six-figure podcast deal, starred in Ryan Murphy’s new series Grotesquerie and landed a hosting gig on Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?
