Travis Kelce ‘Loose Cannons’ Movie: Chiefs Tight End to Play Lead Role in Upcoming Buddy Cop Movie

There are many ways to describe Travis Kelce. He is a three-time Super Bowl champion, nine-time Pro Bowler, four-time First-Team All-Pro, podcaster, world traveler, and most importantly, since last year, Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.

Soon the title “leading actor” can be added to this list.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kelce is set to star in an upcoming Lionsgate film called “Loose Cannons.” The action comedy is set to be produced by Chad Stahelski (“John Wick”), Jason Spitz and Alex Young.

The news continues a trend of Kelce moving more and more into the Hollywood spotlight. He previously hosted “Saturday Night Live” and took part in a number of live and taped sketches for the infamous NBC show. He will also host the Amazon game show “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity,” a reboot of the classic show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader.” Kelce also stars in the upcoming Ryan Murphy FX horror show “Grotesquerie.”

What is “Loose Cannons” about?

Loose Cannons is an upcoming buddy cop film from Lionsgate. Kelce is reportedly set to play the lead role.

The film was written by Tim Dowling (“Just Go With It”) and is supposedly about how two crazy cops work together and take on a case that everyone else ignores.

Read more about this premise in the Hollywood Reporter:

The premise revolves around the fact that every police department, at least in the world of this film, has a crazy, out-of-control, rule-breaking officer on staff. But instead of pairing them with an honest and rule-abiding partner, the premise here is that that crazy person is paired with someone who is just as out of line as they are.

In In “Loose Cannons,” two unpredictable guys are forced to team up after their districts are merged due to budget cuts and no one wants to work with them. The duo ends up taking on the cases that no one else can.

“Loose Cannons” is also the title of a 1990 crime film starring Gene Hackman and Dan Aykroyd. Directed by Bob Clark, the film is about a police officer and a detective with multiple personality disorder who are tasked with hunting down the suspect in a murder case with Nazi ties.

The film is still in the early stages of working out details. There is no director, no possible timeline for when production will start, or a release date.

Given that the 2024 NFL season is about to start, it is highly unlikely that filming will begin until the spring of 2025, after Super Bowl LIX, where Kelce and the Chiefs will seek an unprecedented third consecutive NFL victory.
