Travis Kelce, almost 35, “wouldn’t listen” if the Chiefs played a subordinate role

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – If the Chiefs’ offense changes this season as a concession to the age of Travis Kelce, who turns 35 in October, the veteran tight end knows nothing about it.

“If they did, I probably wouldn’t listen to them,” Kelce said, maybe joking, maybe not.

Regardless, Kelce said he feels physically more ready for a season than he has in years.

“You feel more comfortable in your body,” Kelce says. “You learn from the mistakes you’ve made over the years and things like that. You just keep getting better and become more aware of where your body is.”

“I’m excited. I get to play another year of football (with) a clean slate. We can prove to ourselves and Chiefs Kingdom that we’re top dogs and can play at a high level.”

Kelce joined the Chiefs as a third-round draft pick in 2013. Although he has an increasing number of career opportunities outside of football, including acting roles and a deal with Amazon’s Wondery reportedly worth more than $100 million for the podcast “New Heights,” which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, Kelce says he hasn’t lost any of his passion for football.

“I just love coming here (and) I love football and how it takes my mind off of the day-to-day,” Kelce said. “It gives me something to really enjoy. I enjoy coming into the building, working on my craft, understanding a new game plan and perfecting it for the people around me. (It) gives me a purpose to spend my day and live my life, and I have so much fun doing it.”

“I’m eternally fortunate to be able to play as many games in this league as I have, and so I really enjoy going out there every day, even if it’s just a practice, to really work on my craft. I know not everyone is as lucky in their career, and I’m ready to rock Week 1, and I’m grateful for that.”
