WYOMING – Weather plays a crucial role in the truck and tractor pull event held here every summer.

“When Mother Nature cooperates, there can be a lot of visitors. Today is one of those days — maybe it’s too nice a day, but I think the stands will gradually fill up and we’ll have a great day of pulling,” said Murray Preece, a spokesman for the Plympton-Wyoming Truck and Tractor Pull, on Saturday afternoon as temperatures approached 30 degrees.
Nearly 30 trucks and tractors from the Southwestern Ontario Tractor Pullers Association participated in the event at the Wyoming Fairgrounds, which featured 15 different classes.
“We have a number of good pullers and classes here,” said Preece. “It was tough competition today.”
Drivers from the Windsor-Essex, Goderich and Guelph regions came to compete against local competitors. One of them was Dan McAuslan of Petrolia, driving a red Farmall 706.

“I’m just getting started,” he said as he lined up for his turn. “Pretty green.”
The fairgrounds doors opened at 10 a.m. before the draw began at 2 p.m. Admission was $20 for those 13 and older, $5 for children 6-12, and free for children under 5. The event, organized by the Plympton-Wyoming Agricultural Society, raises funds that go back to the community.
“We’re just doing what we do best to provide a nice venue for the people of the city,” he said.
The event began with a tribute to longtime committee member Eugene Packet, who passed away in April.
“Our hearts go out to Eugene Packet and his family,” Preece said.
