Tornado warning lifted for Jefferson and Oldham; remains in effect for Henry and Trimble

As severe storms moved through the region Tuesday afternoon, a funnel cloud was spotted over the town of Prospect in Jefferson County, the National Weather Service in Louisville confirmed to the Courier Journal.

A service meteorologist said the system has now entered Oldham County and is moving northeast toward Trimble and Henry counties. A tornado warning has been extended to 2:30 p.m. for those areas, but the warning has been lifted for Jefferson County.

A touchdown was not reported.

A severe weather warning is in effect until 2:30 p.m. for parts of the Louisville metropolitan area, including Jefferson, Oldham, Trimble and Henry counties in Kentucky and Clark County in Indiana.

Wind speeds of up to 60 mph and hail up to half an inch thick are expected in the next half hour, NWS spokesman Michael Kochasic said.

Two isolated areas – downtown and southern Indiana – are under close monitoring due to the possibility of a tornado warning, Kochasic said.

Other conditions to watch for include lightning and thunder, as well as heavy precipitation with up to an inch of rainfall, Kochasic.

“I expect we’ll probably get a good two centimeters of rain in the next hour,” Kochasic said.

According to the warning, hail damage to vehicles and storm damage to roofs, facades and trees are expected.
