Although the 2024 college football season has just begun, there are already big changes in our Top 25. Some teams (Notre Dame, Miami and USC) have looked strong to start the year, while others (Oregon, Clemson and Florida State) have started slowly.

Here’s a look at our top 25 teams in college football as we enter Week 2. Please note that this is not the same as PFF’s Power Rankings.

1. Georgia Bulldogs (Record: 1-0, previous place: 1st)

Match Week 2: against Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles

Georgia demolished Clemson, then ranked No. 14, 34-3 last weekend. The Tigers’ offense was powerless against the Bulldogs, averaging just 3.9 yards per play. Georgia looks like it’s the No. 1 team in the country right now.

2. Ohio State Buckeyes (record: 1-0, previous place: 2nd)

Match Week 2: against Western Michigan Broncos

After a sluggish first half, Ohio State woke up in the second quarter to beat Akron 52-6 in the season opener. True freshman Jeremiah Smith lived up to the hype as 247Sports’ highest-rated wide receiver recruit of all time, finishing his college debut with six catches on eight attempts for 92 yards and two scores.

3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (record: 1-0, previous matchday: 6th)

Match Week 2: against Northern Illinois Huskies

Notre Dame moved up several spots thanks to an impressive 23-13 road win over then-No. 20 Texas A&M. Conner Weigman, PFF’s top quarterback prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft, posted a career-low PFF passing grade of 28.0 as the Fighting Irish’s elite defense smothered the Aggies.

4. Ole Miss Rebels (Record: 1-0, previous game: 4th)

Match Week 2: against Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders

Ole Miss opened its season with eight consecutive scoring drives against Furman, including a shutout, and ended up winning 76-0. Jaxson Dart showed why he’s a top Heisman Trophy contender earlier this season, leading all quarterbacks in the country this week with a PFF grade of 95.7.

5. Texas Longhorns (Record: 1-0, previous matchday: 5th)

Matchup Week 2: at No. 9 Michigan Wolverines

Texas crushed Colorado State 52-0. The Longhorns did a great job of shutting down Tory Horton. The top 70 prospect on PFF’s 2025 NFL Draft Big Board managed just five catches for 31 yards and averaged just 1.72 yards per route run. The Longhorns face No. 9 Michigan this week in arguably the biggest nonconference game of the college football season.

6. Oregon Ducks (Record: 1-0, previous place: 3rd)

Match Week 2: against Boise State Broncos

The Ducks won their season opener, but it certainly wasn’t a pretty one. Oregon defeated Idaho 24-14 despite being a 49.5-point favorite over the FCS team. The Ducks’ offense entered the year as arguably the best unit in America, but averaged just -0.016 expected points per game against the Vandals, its lowest since the 2022 season. Oregon can’t afford to look so sluggish this week when it faces one of the Group of Five’s top playoff contenders, Boise State.

7. Penn State Nittany Lions (Record: 1-0, previous place: 9th)

Match Week 2: against Bowling Green Falcons

Penn State opened its season with a dominant 34-12 road win over West Virginia. The stars of the day for the Nittany Lions were their two new coordinators: Andy Kotelnicki and Tom Allen. Kotelnicki was a breath of fresh air for Penn State’s historically dull offense, running on 66.1% of plays after the unit was only moving 45.7% of the time last year. Allen and the Nittany Lions defense stopped an explosive Mountaineers attack, allowing just 3.7 yards per play.

8. Alabama Crimson Tide (Record: 1-0, previous game: 7.)

Match Week 2: against USF Bulls

The Kalen DeBoer era at Alabama began with a 63-0 victory over Western Kentucky. One of the Crimson Tide’s biggest question marks entering the season was their inexperienced receiver corps, but they may have found a new star in true freshman Ryan Williams. The 17-year-old speedster caught both passes aimed at him for 139 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Alabama will look to look much better this week against USF than they did last year after they only beat the Bulls 17-3 despite being 34.5-point favorites.

9. Michigan Wolverines (record: 1-0, previous matchday: 8th)

Match Week 2: against No. 5 Texas Longhorns

To the surprise of many, the Wolverines started redshirt junior Davis Warren as their starting quarterback against Fresno State. The results were mostly mediocre, as he posted a 68.7 PFF passing grade with no big throws and one turnover-worthy play in a 30-10 win. Sherrone Moore will likely need to get more out of his offense this week, as Michigan hosts Texas in the most important game of Week 2.

10. Miami (FL) Hurricanes (Record: 1-0, previous place: 12th)

Match Week 2: against Florida A&M Rattlers

“The U” could be back. Miami started its 2024 season with a convincing 41-17 win over Florida in “The Swamp.” Aside from an ugly interception, Cam Ward was outstanding in his debut with the Hurricanes. The Washington State transfer finished the win with a 90.9 overall PFF grade and four big throws.

11. Missouri Tigers (Record: 1-0, previous place: 10th)

12. Arizona Wildcats (record: 1-0, previous matchday: 11.)

13. Tennessee Volunteers (record: 1-0, previous game: 15th)

14. Louisville Cardinals (record: 1-0, previous game: 17.)

15. Oklahoma Sooners (record: 1-0, previous game: 18.)

16. USC Trojans (Record: 1-0, previous place: 21st)

17. Kansas State Wildcats (Record: 1-0, previous place: 19th)

18. Utah Utes (record: 1-0, previous matchday: 20th)

19. Oklahoma State Cowboys (Record: 1-0, previous place: 22nd)

20. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (Record: 2-0, Previous: NR)

21. LSU Tigers (Record: 0-1, previous place: 14th)

22. Kansas Jayhawks (Record: 1-0, previous place: 21st)

23. Clemson Tigers (Record: 0-1, previous place: 13th)

24. Iowa Hawkeyes (Record: 1-0, previous place: 24th)

25. Iowa State Cyclones (1-0, Previously: NR)
