Tony Goldwyn and Kerry Washington meet unexpectedly during DNC scandal

There was a surprise Mini scandal See you at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Thursday, August 22nd.

Kerry Washington, 47, took the stage to deliver a speech as moderator of the evening events leading up to Kamala Harris (59) accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidential candidacy.

“I am the one standing on this stage, but I am not the main character in this story,” Washington told the crowd, urging voters: “You are.”

“You are the fixers, I dare say you are the Olivia Popes,” added the actress, referring to her crisis management expert scandal character while voters cheered.

“You are the superheroes who are saving this democracy. It is you! Not me … who has the greatest power to convince your loved ones to vote,” Washington told the audience.

Washington urged the crowd to take out their cellphones and record video, then asked someone to bring their phone over so they could “capture this historic moment,” namely the moment Tony Goldwyn – who played President Fitzgerald “Fitz” Grant in the political drama – took the stage.

Washington urged people to share any clips filmed of the moment on social media, which she later did on Instagram.

The former co-stars then chanted “If we fight,” to which the crowd chanted back “We win” (Harris’ rousing message) several times before Washington asked the crowd if they were ready “for Kamala Harris to win,” adding to cheers, “Good, because if Kamala wins, America wins.”

She then filmed the crowd with her phone and nodded to Harris’ phone call with President Joe Biden after his victory in the 2020 presidential election. She said, “We did it…”, apparently referring to the DNC crowd who completed the chant and videos, adding, “We did it, Joe.”

Goldwyn then asked if he should stay on stage, to which Washington replied, “No, you must go… Tony Goldwyn, ladies and gentlemen!”

“The original 🎥 #WhenWeFightWeWin #DNC2024,” Washington captioned a video shared on Instagram.

The actress also posed for two more photos with Goldwyn, who hosted the DNC on Monday night, and shared them on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“Give the people what they want @tonygoldwyn #ForDemocracy #DMC #Olitz,” Washington captioned the photos.

Goldwyn also added a photo of the couple to his Instagram stories, writing, “Serious business is happening with @kerrywashington at #DNCChicago!!!”

During her appearance, Washington got a little help from Harris’ great-nieces Amara and Leela, who gave people a lesson in the correct pronunciation of the US Vice President’s name.

“It has come to my attention that there are some people who have difficulty, or pretend to have difficulty, with the correct pronunciation of the name of our future president,” Washington said of Harris before bringing the two girls on stage to explain how to pronounce the name: “Comma-Luh.”

Pink was also among the celebrity guests at Thursday’s DNC, bringing her 13-year-old daughter Willow Sage Hart to sing a stripped-down version of her 2017 hit “What About Us.”
