ForbesToday’s Wordle No. 1171: Hints, tips and answers for Monday, September 2nd

Well, I need a vacation. From a vacation. After an incredibly exhausting and tiring trip through Washington DC and New York City, including museums, hot, humid walking tours of the city, and four Broadway shows – a truly wonderful trip – and a full day of travel over Labor Day, I am exhausted. Exhausted. Worn out, drained, and jet-lagged. Completely worn out.

Don’t get me wrong: this is not a complaint. Just an observation. Traveling is wonderful, but it’s damn exhausting!

Okay, let’s do Wordle.

How to solve today’s Wordle

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot. right here.

I forgot that I used CRONE as my first guess yesterday (a CRANE-like guess, just so I can be a bit different from the Wordle Bot). I blame my forgetfulness for the above fatigue but oh well. I had 79 possible solutions left, which I promptly reduced to just 3 using SAINT. Unfortunately, all three were about equally likely: PAINT, FAINT or TAINT. I chose the more common letter – P – instead of “F” or the double “T”. Unfortunately, it wasn’t PAINT. Fortunately, my next guess was the deciding factor. FAINT wins! Hurrah!

Competitive Wordle Score

Another failure. 0 points for guessing in four and 0 for the draw with the bot. That’s life.

How to play competitive Wordle

  • If you get a 1, guessing is worth 3 points, if you get a 2, guessing is worth 2 points, if you get a 3, guessing is worth 1 point, if you get a 4, guessing is worth 0 points, if you get a 5, guessing is worth -1 point, if you get a 6, guessing is worth -2 points and missing the Wordle is worth -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. If you draw, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add these points together to get your score. Keep a daily score or just play for a new score every day.
  • On Fridays you get 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running record or just play day by day. Have fun!

Today’s Wordle etymology

The word “impotent” comes from the Latin “finger” (form, specify), developed through Old French “hostile” (pretend) and Middle English “weak” (powerless). Originally it meant “weak” or “mindless” and later described a temporary loss of consciousness.
