Why DAMP you ask? I have no idea. Sometimes words just come to mind and I think about what comes to mind first. I followed this pretty crappy opening with CRANE, cutting 228 words down to just 3. Once again I went with the first thing that came to mind – BRAIN (although I later learned that there were also GRAIN and DRAIN as options). But I’m so smart, with my big BRAIN (or maybe I’m just lucky), that I got the Wordle in three parts. Huzzah!

How to Play Competitive Wordle

• Guessing 1 is worth 3 points; guessing 2 is worth 2 points; guessing 3 is worth 1 point; guessing 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; Guessing on 6 is -2 points and missing the wordle is -3 points.
• If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If there is a tie you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or simply play for a new score every day.
• Fridays are 2XP, which means you double your points – positive or negative.
• You can keep a running list or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle etymology

The word Brain comes from the Old English word brægenwhich referred to the organ in the head. Its origins can be traced further back to Proto-Germanic (Bragnam), and it is probably related to similar words in other Germanic languages, such as Dutch (Brein). The ultimate origin is uncertain, but it may be related to a Proto-Indo-European root meaning “burn” or “bubble,” possibly alluding to the nature or appearance of the brain.
