Today almost seasonal, late tonight rain

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – A little warmer today than yesterday, highs are more seasonal. After today, highs will be unseasonably cool, with highs remaining above 70 degrees in several areas! Several chances of rain will be observed over the next 8 days, with the first round starting late tonight into tomorrow.

To become active:

  1. Enjoy the sun today: From tomorrow until the beginning of next week, the weather forecast will be dominated by clouds rather than sunshine.
  2. The chance of rain will be monitored nearly daily (or more accurately, nightly) for the next 8 days. During the day, the morning hours are monitored as this is when rain is most likely to impact outdoor plans, compared to the afternoon/evening. Currently, the hazards are lightning and localized heavy rain, with a very low risk of severe weather. All are subject to change, so keep checking back for updates.

After today, it will feel more like September, with unseasonably cool weather continuing through the weekend. While rain chances are highest in northeast Kansas tonight and into tomorrow, Kansas will be hit by a storm this weekend. For now, most of the rain will likely stay west and south of the WIBW coverage area, which is why Day 8 is dry, but there is still a chance of some rain hitting the area both days on Saturday and Sunday.

Normal high: 90/Normal low: 69(WIBW)

Today: A few clouds this morning, otherwise mostly sunny this afternoon. Maximum temperatures between 27 and 32 °C. Wind direction east/southeast at 8-16 km/h.

Tonight: Scattered showers/thunderstorms after midnight. Lows between 18 and 21 °C. Winds from the east, around 8 km/h.

Morning: Scattered showers in the morning, isolated activities may continue into the afternoon. Maximum temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees. Wind direction north 5-15, gusts around 40 km/h.

Humidity will start to drop starting Thursday night, resulting in even lower humidity than today and a more fall-like feel on Friday and Saturday. Combined with the cooler temperatures between 24 and 27 degrees and partly to mostly cloudy skies, this will bring really refreshing and almost a little chilly air. IF there is rain, it will stay south of I-70 on Saturday.

Humidity will increase throughout the day by Sunday, leading to humid conditions for the next work week. There is another chance of rain on Sunday, mostly along and south of I-70, but again the chance is low, which is why it doesn’t rain for the 8 days. The bigger chance of rain will arrive overnight Sunday, with a few more chances of rain each night early next week, but the chances are lower. Temperature next week is also low, so there are a lot of details that could cause changes to the long-range forecast in the coming days.
