Krefeld. (MR) With a 3-0 win on the first match day, the Kölner Haie secured their place in the final of this preparatory derby. Tomorrow’s opponent will be between the Krefeld Pinguine and the Iserlohn Roosters.

The Cologne Sharks initially had Grenier and new signing Tyrväinen in the team, while the Düsseldorf EG had to do without the injured Cumiskey, Ehl and Schofield as well as their first two goalies. In front of two small groups of fans from Cologne and Düsseldorf, the two Rhineland rivals initially tested each other out a little. But very early on, the game shifted to the Düsseldorf half of the field, and Leon Hümer had to parry time and again. In the fourth minute of the game, he was powerless against the follow-up shot (McLeod), and Aubry immediately added the second goal, 38 seconds between the two goals. After that, the Sharks missed a whole series of opportunities, while the DEG tried to defend themselves or create their own. The line around Roßmy had the best chance in the 15th minute. They let the puck run nicely around the opponent’s goal, but Ancicka was the last stop.

Forced row changes for the second round

The second period was better from the DEG’s point of view. Although they had to do without O’Donnell since the break and the two “lattice bearers” moved through the ranks and got more ice time, they were now able to create more of their own opportunities and even establish themselves in the Cologne third for a while. However, a goal was not to be scored, just as there was no goal in the power play situations. The Haie had one of these, which was passionately defended by Düsseldorf. The DEG had two power plays, with the Haie having the best chance on the counterattack in the first one. At the second half the score was still 0:2. And it was to stay that way for a long time. The Cologne side also had to report the loss of No. 21 (Tyrväinen), but overall the Haie team seemed well-rehearsed. In the 54th minute of the game, Cologne’s McLeod was able to add another goal to the score, and so both teams worked their way up to the final siren. Since the tournament begins with the “semi-finals,” both teams are already playing their finals on Sunday, with the loser DEG playing against the loser of tomorrow’s match between Krefeld and Iserlohn. Cologne is in the final and is also waiting for its opponents.
