The Olympic athletics competitions will conclude on August 11 with the women’s marathon.

Ethiopian Tigist Assefa is considered a top candidate for gold after setting a world record at the Berlin Marathon last year. Kenyan Peres Jepchirchir won gold in Tokyo, and Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan is also a promising runner.

Fiona O’Keeffe, Emily Sisson and Dakotah Lindwurm compete for Team USA. Sisson is the American marathon world record holder.

The elevation changes on the course make the course a unique challenge for the racers. The competition is strong and will ensure a great end to the competition in Paris.

Route of the 2024 Olympic Marathon

The marathon route starts at the Hôtel de Ville and ends at the Esplanade des Invalides. Along the way, runners can admire the sights of Paris’ most famous monuments, including the Louvre, the Grand Palais, the Palace of Versailles and the Eiffel Tower.

For the first time in history, the general public will be invited to put themselves in the shoes of the Olympians and run the same course as the elite athletes. Around 20,024 participants will run the same course just hours after the men’s Olympic marathon.
