Thunderstorms again in the weekend forecast as Hurricane Ernesto approaches

NEW JERSEY – A significant change in weather is on the way from this week’s pleasant weather as a storm system moves in from the west and Hurricane Ernesto creates poor coastal conditions off the coast to the east.

Friday will be warm and dry, but according to meteorologists at the National Weather Service, the risk of showers and thunderstorms will increase starting Saturday.

It will also be humid, say meteorologists. There may be heavy rain in some places and a few thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening. However, the entire weekend is not expected to be a disaster.

“Coastal areas may remain dry for most of Saturday,” the National Weather Service said, but Hurricane Ernesto will cause dangerous rip currents and rough surf even as the storm passes east of our area.

Since it was dry last week, flooding is not expected to be a cause for concern.

“There is still a possibility of flash flooding in small streams and urban areas where there is a few hours of rain,” said Dan Pydynowski, AccuWeather’s senior meteorologist. “But such conditions are more localized.”

According to the National Weather Service, there is a slightly increased risk of flash flooding on Sunday.
