Three people drown in bathing lakes at the weekend

With temperatures so high, many people sought to cool off over the weekend. Three people died in Bavaria.

At least three people died in the lakes of southern Bavaria over the weekend in hot late summer weather with temperatures of up to 32 degrees. A 77-year-old died after losing consciousness in Lake Langwieder near Munich. A paddler found a 62-year-old lifeless in the water in Lake Kochel. A 74-year-old died in Lake Kirnberg near Penzberg.

The 77-year-old was swimming with his wife in Lake Langwieder on Saturday and lost consciousness, the fire department said. Emergency services rescued him from the water. The 77-year-old was reportedly transported to a hospital in a very critical condition and underwent resuscitation. According to the police, he died there that same evening.

Two stand-up paddlers found the 62-year-old unconscious in Lake Kochel in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district. Rescue workers were called to the scene and recovered the woman. However, the emergency doctor could only confirm her death.

The 74-year-olds had been swimming in the Kirnbergsee in the Weilheim-Schongau district and drowned for reasons that were initially unknown. A relative pulled them out of the water and started resuscitation with other swimmers. The woman later died in hospital. The police ruled out any third-party involvement.
