Three McLane High School students arrested after shooting near school, officials say

Three McLane High students were arrested this week following a shooting near the school.

The arrests came after police arrested a 16-year-old shooter in a nearby neighborhood.

The shooting occurred at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday near an Auto Zone on the corner of Clinton and Cedar Avenue. When officers arrived, they found no victims of the shooting.

Officers learned that an altercation had occurred between a large group of students who had attended the school before the shooting occurred.

Some of those bullets struck a vehicle and a nearby restaurant, deputies said.

The 16-year-old suspected shooter was arrested in a residential area, officials said.

Detectives from the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium subsequently arrested two suspects, both 15 years old.

Officers arrested a 15-year-old boy who allegedly struck another person with a handgun and also arrested another 15-year-old boy who helped the two shooters dispose of their firearms, officials said.

The weapons were not found.

Deputies said witnesses helped deputies by giving them descriptions of the people involved, including the shooter. The shooting was also captured on video surveillance equipment.

MAGEC, the Fresno Police Department, a School Resource Officer (SRO) and a Violent Criminal Apprehension Team worked on the case.

The teens were booked into a juvenile detention center and face weapons charges, officials said.

“The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and Fresno Police Department hope these arrests bring a sense of relief to the McLane High School community as it moves into the next week of school,” officials said.
