Thousands report Microsoft 365 outages as users can’t access email, Teams, and other apps

Having trouble signing in to your email or other Microsoft account this morning? You’re not alone.

Thousands of Microsoft 365 users reported outages Thursday morning, saying they could not log into their email accounts or access other applications. Downdetector, a website that tracks technical outages, estimated that over 20,000 users were experiencing problems at the height of the outage.

Here’s what we know about the Microsoft 365 outage.

Is Microsoft 365 down?

According to Downdetector, more than 24,000 users reported outages on Microsoft 365 around 9:00 a.m. ET on Thursday morning. By 9:30 a.m., the number had dropped back to just under 3,500.

Which Microsoft apps are having problems?

Outlook had the most outages: 75% of reports related to the email app. 17% of users had problems with server connections and 8% with Onedrive.

When will the Microsoft outage be resolved?

X’s Microsoft 365 Status account (formerly Twitter) published a post around 9:00 a.m. ET saying the company was investigating an issue where users may be unable to access several Microsoft 365 services.

At around 9:30 a.m., the company issued an update saying it was investigating its network infrastructure and working with a third-party vendor to understand the underlying issue. An update on when service is expected to be restored has not yet been released.
