Thousands attend Trump rally at Nassau Coliseum

Former President Donald Trump spoke to thousands of his supporters at Nassau Coliseum on Wednesday night.

The Republican candidate took the stage shortly after 7 p.m. to deliver his message to the packed audience in the arena.

Many people who waited in line for hours to get into the Colosseum for the rally were instead forced to watch the rally outside on large television screens.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and law enforcement officials praised the county’s preparations ahead of the event, shortly after the suspected assassination attempt on one of the former president’s golf courses on Sunday.

Police say the claim that explosives were found near the Trump rally is unfounded and one person is being questioned. Nassau County Police Chief Patrick Ryder said in a statement: “Reports of explosives found at the location are unfounded. One person who may have trained an explosive detection dog near the location is being questioned. The person with the explosive detection dog falsely reported that explosives were found and is currently in police custody.”

The rally resulted in heavier than usual traffic in the area and some surrounding schools had to end classes early because of the event.
