This week we are closely monitoring the tropics

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Our dry, warm weather spell will continue to usher in the new work week, but by the middle and end of the week, all eyes will be on the tropics.

Tonight until Monday night

In the short term we will not have any weather problems as the high pressure area will remain in control. It will remain dry overnight and the skies will be mostly clear. The lowest temperatures will be between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius.

Monday is also forecast to be a hot day. Temperatures will rise to 35 to 40 degrees under predominantly sunny skies. Isolated rain showers cannot be ruled out, but the probability of rain remains very low at the start of the new week.

We expect calmer conditions on Monday night, with lows of just over 25 degrees Celsius and partly cloudy skies.

Second half of the week and a tropical update

The high pressure system will bring another predominantly dry, hot day on Tuesday. Isolated showers are possible, but for the most part it will be dry and predominantly sunny. Temperatures will be between 35 and 35 degrees, with lows of 25 degrees.

For the middle and end of the work week, our forecast will depend heavily on the area of concern near the Yucatan Peninsula. As of Sunday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center gives this location a high probability (80%) of tropical formations next week. The next name on the list is Helene.

Until a low pressure system forms, models will continue to fluctuate and shift, so we can’t determine its exact track or intensity at this time. However, the National Hurricane Center says we’re likely to see a tropical depression or tropical storm near the Yucatan Peninsula in the next few days. When that happens, we’ll get a better picture of where this system might move and how strong it might become.

Models are more consistent that our region will see an increase in tropical moisture during the second half of the work week. Isolated showers are expected to increase through Wednesday night, and rain could continue into parts of Friday. As the chance of rain increases, temperatures are expected to drop. Highs on Thursday and Friday will be in the 30s to 35s Celsius with mostly cloudy skies.
