Singer and multiple Grammy Award winner Linda Ronstadt referenced JD Vance’s 2021 “childless cat ladies” comment in a statement denouncing Donald Trump’s rally in Arizona.

The former president held his first campaign rally after the debate on Thursday in Tucson, Ronstadt’s hometown, in the hall named after her.

“I am saddened that the former president is bringing his hate show to Tucson, a city with deep Mexican-American roots and a cheerful, tolerant spirit,” Ronstadt said in a statement Wednesday ahead of the event.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member criticized the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy at the border.

“In Nogales and along the southern border, the Trump administration has systematically torn apart migrant families seeking asylum,” she wrote. “The separation of families has orphaned thousands of young children and babies and abused their desperate mothers and fathers.”

She also called Trump a “rapist.”

In a PS to vice presidential candidate and Ohio Senator Vance, Ronstadt said, “I raised two adopted children in Tucson as a single mother. They are both grown and live in their own homes. I live with a cat. Am I half a childless cat lady because I am unmarried and have not given birth to my children? Call me what you will, but this cat lady will proudly vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in November.”

Vance’s catlady comment from a 2021 Fox News interview resurfaced this summer and was criticized by Jennifer Anniston, Taylor Swift and other female celebrities. After heated reactions to the comment, Trump defended his running mate at the National Association for Black Journalists convention.
