This Aldi superfan saved thousands on her wedding with this genius hack (it’s so clever)

Known for its great-value abundance of fruit, vegetables and staples, and even an impressive wine selection, Aldi has built up a loyal following of bargain hunters over the years. Fans of the discounter love good prices so much that they’re happy to go the extra mile (literally) to snag their favorite finds.

One savvy shopper recently figured out how to make the most of her wedding budget. In a Facebook group dedicated to Aldi, the bride-to-be shared that she drove nearly three hours to “buy some wine for (her) wedding. In the end, each bottle only cost $3.35!”

The OG poster started her post with a photo of a truck filled to the brim with wine bottles wrapped in bubble wrap (to ensure they arrived home safely). And because I’m a detective when it comes to tracking down food deals and news (and yes, a little nosy too), I took a closer look at the photo to count how many bottles were in her haul. I counted 60 (!) bottles of wine, which totals $201. Awesome—especially considering that couples spend an average of $2,800 on booze at weddings, according to The Knot.

Wondering what kind of wine they were after on the road trip? Although the bottles aren’t fully visible, between the comments and partial letters on one bottle, it looks like it’s none other than Winking Owl Merlot, an American-made red wine. We weren’t too surprised, as the label is consistently a fan favorite with Aldi shoppers.

After the discovery was shared in an Aldi Facebook group, fans were enthusiastic about this ingenious idea: “What a fantastic idea. Your guests will love it.” And of course, people asked if the wine was actually so goodand the commentators enthusiastically agreed: “YES, THAT’S IT!”

Some shoppers even shared that they too have benefited from such an offer: “My daughter bought Aldi wine. We had special labels printed. It was a hit,” said one commenter, while another added: “We did the same for the sparkling pink lemonade for my daughter’s wedding… 64 bottles!”

If you live in a state where wine is sold in grocery stores, commenters also said, “You can also talk to a manager and ask them to order it special for you. I did that with bread for our church’s food bank. They appreciated that I didn’t just clear their shelves.”

While it’s not entirely clear where the poster stole all those bottles from or how the wedding itself went, if you’re planning an event and trying to stick to a budget, Aldi may be your best option (be sure to call your local grocer first, though).
