Thieves damaged several cars in a parking lot of a residential complex near Pentagon City earlier this week.
The break-ins occurred at the Cavendish condominiums on Monday night. The cars involved were Hondas, according to Arlington County police.
“On August 6th at approximately 6:06 a.m., police were called to a report of a theft,” a police report states. “It was determined that between approximately 7:00 p.m. on August 5th and 6:06 a.m. on August 6th, the suspect(s) forcibly entered parked vehicles in the area and stole the airbags from seven vehicles. There is no description(s) of the suspect. The airbags were stolen from Honda model vehicles.”
An informant described some of the damage.
“Nine passenger vehicles in the Cavendish parking lot, 1200 and 1300 Arlington Ridge Road, were broken into,” the source said. “All were various Honda models and the driver’s side door handles and locks were ripped off and the airbags were stolen from the steering wheels. In addition, some residents had personal items stolen from their vehicles.”
“Fortunately, there are many surveillance cameras actively recording in this area and evidence has been collected that will help identify the suspects,” the source added.
“The investigation is ongoing,” ACPD said.
In Arlington, there have been frequent cases of airbag thefts from Hondas in recent years.
