The Yankees made sad history with their unprecedented offensive performance

The New York Yankees were on the wrong side of franchise history on Tuesday night.

The Yankees were completely overwhelmed by Kansas City Royals starter Seth Lugo in a 5-0 loss in the Bronx and had no answer.

In fact, they didn’t have much to offer against Lugo, who is in the middle of a year of his career.

The Yankees managed just three hits all night, all of which came against Lugo, while he struck out 10 batters in seven innings. Gleyber Torres had two singles and Austin Wells added a single. No one managed a walk.

The Yankees only managed three hard-hit balls (EV 95 mph+) all night, from Wells, Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton.

Relievers Kris Bubic and John Schreiber each struck out two batters in the next two innings.

According to Katie Sharp, it was the first time in Yankees history that a lineup had no extra-base hits, no walks and at least 14 strikeouts.

Baseball has always had its ups and downs, but for the Yankees this was something unprecedented.

According to Stathead, this has already happened twice this season to the Tampa Bay Rays (June 8) and the Houston Astros (May 29). It was the 55th time in Major League Baseball history.

With this loss and the Baltimore Orioles’ win on Tuesday night, the Yankees’ lead in their division was reduced to 0.5 games.

With an 83-62 record entering Wednesday, the Yankees have the best record in the American League as they close out the series against the Royals and try to avoid a repeat of its historically poor performance.
