We only recently learned about the astronomical price of Huawei’s alleged tri-fold phone and now there is news that the Chinese manufacturer will launch the phone very soon.
A report from Chinese-language website My Drivers, spotted by GSMArena, claimed that Huawei CEO Richard Yu confirmed at an electric car event in Shanghai this week that the world’s first tri-fold phone will launch in September. A customer at the event asked Yu when the tri-fold display would be available, and he simply replied, “Next month.”
Yu has been spotted in public with the triple-screen phone several times. We’re not sure what the new device will be called, but it’s said to have a massive 10-inch display when unfolded. Whether it will instantly become one of the best foldable phones or a weird anomaly is still up in the air.
Surprisingly, the device Yu was seen with looks quite thin and is rumored to be quite light. Chinese companies like Huawei and Vivo have had great success in making amazingly thin foldable phones.
Although Huawei’s device was publicly seen, there were not many leaks. The company has kept the device surprisingly secret.
With the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, we have some pretty thin foldable phones, but based on the images we’ve seen, the Huawei Triple Fold could be as tall or thinner than those devices.
Now, you and I may not be able to when the phone launches. The rumored price was between $2,800 and $4,900, converted from Chinese yuan to US dollars. Of course, prices change depending on the region, but this hints at how expensive the tri-fold phone could get.
It’s crazy that the tri-fold phone is actually becoming a reality, but it may be a while before we see a version in the US.
Samsung has developed some concepts for tri-fold displays, but there is no guarantee that they will produce one anytime soon. Still, another company launching such a device could motivate Samsung to bring its version to market faster.
