The video of Tim Walz being booed starts online

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, was booed Saturday before a football game between the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota. A video of the incident is now circulating on social media.

A TikTok video of the governor and his motorcade being booed has been shared thousands of times on X, formerly Twitter. Online, the videos are often accompanied by political commentary against Walz, but it’s worth noting that Walz was there to support his home team, the Golden Gophers – not the Wolverines – at their home stadium, The Big House.

OutKick, a Fox-owned sports network, also reposted the video, writing on X: “Michigan fans recklessly boo Tim Walz.”

Steven Cheung, Trump’s campaign spokesman, said Newsweek An email on Sunday said: “Tampon Tim is a weirdo and it’s no surprise that he was harassed and chased out of the stadium like a rat.”

Walz, a former high school football coach, posted a video compilation of his game day experiences on X, featuring interactions with players, coaches and fans from Michigan and Minnesota. He also shared a photo from a tailgate with University of Michigan students supporting voter registration efforts on campus.

In an X post Sunday morning, he wrote, “I’ll always be a Minnesota guy. But after meeting some great people at the Big House, I have to admit – Michiganders know how to throw a good game day.”

Newsweek emailed Walz’s press team for comment on Sunday.

On as Trump handed out food to the crowd at the concession stands. As Trump was introduced over the loudspeaker, many fans chanted his name or shouted “USA,” while others made thumbs-down gestures.

Michigan is a highly competitive state. Recent overall polls show Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of Trump within margins of error. Poll aggregator FiveThirtyEight shows the vice president leading Trump by 2.4 percentage points The New York Times’ Overall, Harris leads the former president by 2 percentage points, 49 percent to 47 percent.

Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance – Trump’s running mate – will face off on Tuesday in their first and only scheduled debate of this election. The debate will take place at 9 p.m. ET in New York City and will be moderated by CBS News. It comes less than a month after Harris and Trump debated in Philadelphia.

While vice presidential debates are usually low-key, there are no second debates planned for Harris and Trump. Last Saturday, Harris agreed to a second debate with Trump, hosted by CNN on Oct. 23, but the former president did not agree to it. The vice presidential debate could be the last time the two major candidates debate before the November election, which is less than 40 days away.
