The twist in the Bachelorette finale came after a unique marriage proposal

From the first moment The BacheloretteIn the final episode of season 21, host Jesse Palmer assured viewers that the next three hours would include something that had never happened on the show before. As the finale unfolded, one thing became clear: the show’s host had not exaggerated.

Before the finale, this season’s lead Jenn Tran had to choose between two men, Marcus Shoberg and Devin Strader. But just over an hour and a half into the finale, Tran surprised everyone with a last-chance breakup between her and Shoberg. Much of the first half of the episode revolved around whether Shoberg was ready to commit to Tran after failing to confess his love to her. The finalist finally gets to tell Tran he loves her, just before breaking up with him.

The second, which led to the biggest surprise of the night, came when Tran, confident in her decision to be with Strader, announced that she was going to tell him he couldn’t propose to her – because she was going to propose to him. But before viewers could even see Tran’s proposal, Palmer cut out the pre-taped Hawaii portion to tell the audience that it wouldn’t be appropriate to show the proposal before hearing from the leading lady herself.

Tran joined the live audience and quickly burst into tears, revealing that Strader had broken off the engagement via phone call after the show aired. The split was not the franchise’s first – Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Bachelor Season ended with his marriage proposal to the former Bachelorette Star Becca Kufrin, before finally changing his mind, breaking up with Kufrin and proposing to Lauren Burnham during the live broadcast After the last rose particularly.

In an emotional and tense section, Strader finally took the stage with Tran. “I don’t even know where to start,” she told Strader to begin their conversation. “I just think this conversation between the two of us is not what I wanted to have, and it’s not going to be of any significance to me.”

Tran, who was visibly angry and upset throughout the conversation, confronted Strader for withdrawing from the relationship in the months between the taping and the live finale and ultimately ending it.

The 26-year-old told her ex-fiancé that she understands that someone can change their mind, but she doesn’t understand what he did after their engagement ended. She mentioned that Strader Tran’s former Bachelor He met his acting colleague Maria Georgas the morning after their engagement ended and instead of being upset about their relationship, he was “clubbing with Jeremy in New York.”

“He said, ‘Oh, I need time and space to process my feelings. This makes me sad,'” Tran recalled. After the audience was audibly surprised, Strader interjected, “I think this is a little different than the conversation I wanted to have with you. I was there on a business trip. I was meeting with a client.”

“At the club,” Tran added.

The former couple went back and forth before Palmer finally put forward the suggestion, telling Tran that no one could take away the film’s historical character. “I know you haven’t seen it yet. What do you think? Should we all watch it together?” the host asked Tran, Strader and the audience. “Do I have a choice?” she replied as the clip began to play.

The first marriage proposal of its kind, when it was finally shown, was a beautiful and romantic moment between Tran and Strader, in which the leading lady told Strader that she was proposing to him, and he immediately proposed back.

Tran told the audience after watching the clip again that it was the happiest day of her life and that she was proud of herself for choosing a man who gave her what she deserved back then. “I don’t regret proposing to that man there,” she said. “That man is no longer around and the truth is, I’m still the same woman I am.”

To conclude Tran’s story, Palmer asked the reality star to share what she thought Strader learned from the experience. “I hope that you learn that the weight of your words counts and that when you make promises, you should be able to keep those promises,” she said.

“I just couldn’t have done what you did in that position,” she continued. “When I love something, I cherish it and I don’t throw it away the next day. I hope that you find it, whatever it is, wherever it is on your personal journey, I hope that one day you get there.”

The finale concluded with an upcoming appearance by Joan Vassos, the first-ever Golden Bachelorette. Vassos, a 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockland, Maryland, was revealed to be the next high school senior looking for love when she made a surprise appearance at Disney’s upfront presentation to ad buyers on Madison Avenue in May.

The clip features Kelsey Anderson, who got engaged to Joey Graziadei in season 28 of “The Last Man.” The Bachelorgreets Vassos as she prepares to meet her potential suitors. The 26-year-old raves about her experience on the show before introducing Vassos to her father, Mark Anderson, who will be appearing as a contestant on the show.
