The truck star’s first career victory turns into a nightmare after a crazy accident in Milwaukee

Layne Riggs, driver of the No. 38 Ford F-150, made headlines at the LiUNA! 175 race at the Milwaukee Mile. He made the move from Spire Motorsports to Front Row Motorsports in early 2024, and it seems like it was the right decision for both the team and the driver. At just 22 years old, Riggs reached a significant milestone in his NASCAR Truck Series career by securing his first career win at the Milwaukee Mile.

He entered the race 15th in the points standings and wasn’t considered a top contender for the win. That made his win all the sweeter for him, as was his celebration. The first win is something that stays with riders forever, and this one will be all the more memorable because as he celebrates his win, something goes horribly wrong with his shoulder. So let’s look at what happened to Riggs right after his first win.

After scoring a surprise victory, Riggs celebrated by climbing on his truck and doing fist pumps in Victory Lane. His excitement exceeded the limits of his body, as he appeared to be in considerable pain when he got out of the truck. The 38 team quickly came to his aid, and it was discovered that he had dislocated his shoulder during his first punch. The crew helped him put his dislocated shoulder back in place, and the celebration continued with less energy.

When Layne Riggs later spoke to FOX Sports about the incident, he acknowledged the severity of his injury but still remained positive, saying: “I dislocated my shoulder. I celebrated so much, It hurts like hell, but it was worth it. It’s not the first time this has happened to me, but it won’t stop me.”

Although he had dislocated his shoulder, he was still able to celebrate his first experience in stock racing. Not only the driver, but also the team and sponsors were thrilled, because from P15 the chances of winning the race were pretty slim.

The energy of the celebration didn’t end when the jumping was over, as Riggs took the microphone to talk about how he felt. He began by saying: “I don’t even know how to describe it,” He then thanked his new sponsor: “Zorn, who was on the truck this weekend. It was her first race and it’s great for her and Love’s Travel Stops. It’s awesome.”

Bob Jenkins and Jerry Freeze drew compliments as they let Riggs drive the truck to victory. The Milwaukee Mile Race winner is in his first full-time season in the Truck Series and mentioned that he learned a lot in his rookie year.

As the race was about to begin, Riggs said, he thought to himself: “There’s no way we’re going to win. We’re going to do our best, but we’re just learning for next year.” At the end of his speech, he thanked his new team, Front Row Motorsports, which he now calls his family.
