The Thai GP in Buriram opens the 2025 MotoGP™ season

MotoGP™ is delighted to announce that the Thai Grand Prix will be the season opener in 2025 and 2026. The Chang International Circuit in Buriram will welcome the world’s most exciting sport on the provisional dates of 28 February – 2 March 2025, marking the first time the season has kicked off in Southeast Asia in over 25 years.

Thailand is a key market for MotoGP™, our manufacturers and the sport’s partners, with a passionate fan base and millions of two-wheelers on the streets. The inaugural Thai GP took place in 2018 and the four events held at the venue to date have seen more than 800,000 fans stream through the gates in Buriram. Now they are invited to witness history being made as the season kicks off in Thailand for the first time ever.

Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand: “We recognise the numerous benefits that come with being the season opener. This presents a significant opportunity to use a world-class sporting event to boost the economy and generate significant revenue in line with the sports tourism policy. One of the factors that will make the 2025 season particularly exciting is the significant rider movement between teams. This will no doubt captivate MotoGP fans worldwide who cannot wait to see the top riders on their new bikes for the first time at the Chang International Circuit. After a nearly four-month break in the season, this will be the inaugural race to showcase the new team dynamics. In addition, as the event organiser, Dorna Sports plans to promote the season opener extensively to increase awareness among motorsport fans worldwide. This will increase the visibility of the Thai round and establish it as a must-attend event for MotoGP fans from around the world.

“On behalf of the Sports Authority of Thailand, I would like to express our sincere thanks to Dorna Sports and assure them that Thailand is fully prepared in every way to host the opening round of the 2025 and 2026 seasons.”

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP™ rights holder Dorna Sports: “We are delighted to announce that the 2025 and 2026 season openers will be the Grand Prix of Thailand in Buriram. South East Asia is one of our most important markets, both for the sport and for our factories and partners. Thailand is playing a leading role in this and the passion is clear to see in the huge crowds we enjoy in Buriram every year. We know they will create an incredible atmosphere for the first event of the season.

“Buriram became an instant favourite as soon as it was added to the calendar. It’s easy to understand why: it’s a fantastic place to enjoy MotoGP™, with a track layout designed to showcase the best of our close racing – which was clearly demonstrated by the incredible show we saw on track last season. We look forward to returning later this year and then returning in 2025 for a history-making season opener.”

The dates remain provisional until confirmed. The full, provisional 2025 FIM MotoGP™ calendar will be published by the FIM later in the 2024 season.
