The Tampa Seminole Hard Rock Casino was partially evacuated after two “crude” explosive devices were found

Two hidden explosive devices were discovered at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday and Monday, prompting partial evacuations, police said Monday.

The devices were deactivated and removed from the premises, Seminole police said in a statement.

The first “crude hidden device containing fireworks components” was found in a men’s restroom next to the casino shortly before midnight on Sunday evening. The device was “quickly deactivated with the cooperation and assistance of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Disposal Team,” police said. “A portion of the casino was immediately evacuated and then reopened around 3 a.m. after the device was deactivated and removed.”

During the investigation sparked by the first device, a second hidden explosive was discovered in a men’s restroom on the casino’s mezzanine just after noon Monday, Seminole police said. The mezzanine area was evacuated and the second device was also deactivated and removed with the assistance of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Disposal Team.

Seminole police said they are cooperating with the FBI and reviewing surveillance video as part of the ongoing investigation.

All areas of the casino have been reopened, the police said on Monday.
