‘The Secret Life of Mormon Wives’ star Mikayla Matthews says Whitney Leavitt’s actions were worse than shown

The Secret Life of the Mormons Star Mikayla Matthews says Whitney Leavitt may have gotten a good edit of her Hulu show, which has been taking TikTok by storm since its September 6 release.

“They didn’t even show everything that happened to her,” said Matthews, 24, She knows in an exclusive interview after the show’s release. “A lot of different things happened that weren’t shown in the show. I think the editing almost made it look a little bit better than it was.”

Leavitt’s disagreements with other cast members such as Taylor Frankie Paul, Jessi Ngatikura and Demi Engemann formed the central storyline of the show, which follows the lives of TikTok influencers in Utah and their ties to the Church of Latter-day Saints.

A heated argument in the show’s fourth episode leads to Leavitt leaving the group chat, refusing to attend events with the other women, and complaining to her husband when she is no longer invited to group activities. By the end of the show, she is essentially no longer part of the friend group.

Matthews, who tells us she was closest to Leavitt and Mayci Neely before filming began, didn’t expect her former friend to become the villain on a reality show, but when she saw how the situation unfolded, she wasn’t too shocked either.

“I wasn’t particularly surprised,” she says. “I feel like I’ve seen some of these features before.”

“I always knew she liked to be in control, but I feel like maybe when we were filming the reality show, things escalated and she lost control and kind of freaked out.”

“I didn’t expect it to be this bad,” she continues. “I saw things on the show that made it seem even worse that I didn’t know happened. They didn’t even show everything that happened with her and other people’s relationships.”

The question of whether a reconciliation with Leavitt is possible is complicated, Matthews tells us.

“I feel like I deserve the (biggest) apology of anyone because we were best friends before, but behind the scenes there’s just no accountability at all.”

Since the show premiered, Leavitt and Matthews have continued their feud on social media. After Leavitt posted a TikTok saying the show “isn’t how I remember it,” Matthews hit back in her comments, writing, “Sometimes I like to admit things I do wrong… You should try.”

Matthews also fired back when Leavitt posted screenshots of text messages with Neely, attempting to clear her name by showing her attempting to make contact as the drama depicted on the show unfolded.

“I saw her character on this show long before the world did and this is the last thing I will say about it,” Matthews wrote on her Instagram story. “No one deserves to be hated, but I will continue to publicly defend my friends in videos that are posted publicly.”
