The Seattle Mariners starting pitcher reveals that he has pitched in recent games despite being ill

The Seattle Mariners enter Tuesday’s game with one of their most impressive wins of the season.

The Mariners beat the Houston Astros 6-1 on Monday thanks to a fantastic start from Bryce Miller. He pitched seven innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five batters without allowing a run.

For Miller, it was his ninth start this season in which he threw six or more scoreless innings – the most in the league.

Even more impressive was the fact that Miller was not 100 percent fit.

According to a report by Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports, Miller was struggling with back pain before the game, which he confirmed himself after the game on Monday.

Miller’s most recent start was his fourth consecutive outing with at least six innings pitched in which he allowed one run or less. He has a 0.72 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched.

“Before the game, my back was a little tight, that didn’t work, but we fought through it,” Miller said in a postgame interview on Monday. “… I felt good all day, then I started warming up and my back got a little tight. But I knew it was a big game and we needed a win (on Monday). So I just had to go out there and do what I could.”

Miller, a former Texas A&M pitcher, helped Seattle to the win in front of more than 20 friends and family members at Minute Maid Park in Houston, including his grandfather, who saw Miller pitch for the first time.

The injury did not appear to be serious enough to hinder Miller, who was able to get out of two tough situations with two runners on base in the second and seventh innings.

Miller will likely play at least once more before the end of the season, and hopefully his back injury won’t be with him until his next game.

The Mariners are 2.0 games behind the Detroit Tigers and 1.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League wild-card race. They are 4.0 games behind the Astros in the American League West.
