Mukesh also acquired a majority stake in New York’s Mandarin Oriental, the preferred hotel of Hollywood royalty and the billionaires who stay there, in 2022. In the same year, he bought a villa on the island of Palm Jumeirah, which he reportedly bought for £63 million. The villa – which spreads across 280 square metres, has 10 bedrooms and a 70-metre private beach – was gifted to Mukesh’s son Anant, whose lavish wedding celebrations have been the talk of society in recent months.
The celebrations surrounding Anant’s wedding to Radhika Merchant (the daughter of Indian pharmaceutical magnates) began in March with a pre-wedding party attended by Ivanka Trump and Mark Zuckerberg, among others, and entertained by a private performance by Rihanna. This was followed in May by a four-day European cruise for 800 of the couple’s closest friends, and then the wedding itself: a multimillion-pound bash for 14,000 guests, including the Blairs, the Johnsons, the Kardashians, the Rothschilds and countless Bollywood stars.
