The puzzle board has returned to its glory. The production returned to the gold frame that was so prominent in season 20, reminiscent of the game show’s heyday.
The golden puzzle board and the colorful elements make the set appear larger. And something else is different.
Ryan Seacrest is the new game show host. He is best known for his long-standing role as host of American Idol. Ryan will be joined by Vanna White, who will continue to be a mainstay of the show.
Despite these changes Wheel of Fortune is still a hit today. According to Nielsen ratings, the show attracts almost 8 million viewers per night. It is one of the most watched game shows.
The reason for Sony’s decision
Viewers of the game show experienced a wave of emotions this year. First, they were sad to learn that Sajak was retiring from the show. Then, some were confused to learn that Sony announced Seacrest as his successor.
Fans could not understand the production’s motives behind this decision. The announcement sparked mixed reactions on social media. Tony Vinciquerra, the chairman of Sony, told The New York Times why Sony hired Seacrest for this position.
“We want continuity of host, someone who is well-known and who will guide the show through this transition,” Vinciquerra said. “I can’t think of anyone better than Ryan for that.”
Seacrest insures The New York Times that he won’t make the game all about himself. He wants to focus on the feeling of nostalgia that brings generations together. Seacrest’s goal is to step back and let the game entertain viewers.
