The Rapids’ unbeaten streak of 13 home games was interrupted by the LA Galaxy

Since moving to Colorado Rapids, Connor Ronan has never complained about playing an unfamiliar role in defensive midfield.

On Wednesday night against MLS Western Conference leaders LA Galaxy, he was rewarded with his first goal of the season – his second with the Rapids – in a 3-1 defeat.

Even in the 45th minute, Ronan managed to stop a dangerous Galaxy counterattack after a Rapids corner was cleared towards a charging Joseph Paintsil. Ronan released the ball and played a ball to defender Reggie Cannon. Two passes later, midfielder Djordje Mihailovic received the assist for Ronan’s left-footed shot from distance to the far post.

After opening his account, Ronan ran to the Rapids’ bench, where he and defender Lalas Abubakar held a jersey with “Monsieur Cabral” written on the back toward the family suite. Kevin Cabral, whose father recently passed away, watched from the suite as his teammates clapped in his honor.

Despite a dominant first half from the Rapids, two quick goals from the Galaxy in the second half ultimately buried the Rapids. That ended the 13-game unbeaten streak at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and dropped the Rapids to sixth place in the Western Conference.
