Celebrate the Winbury couple-to-be at the Winbury family’s beachfront property, Summerland, where we previously gathered poolside for the couple’s engagement party last year. As you all know, the property has been in the Tag family for five generations.

The tasting meal

Meet the Winburys and their closest friends on Summerland Beach on Friday night to sip summer cocktails under white tents decorated with beach roses and Lucite chandeliers. Guests can enjoy Pemaquid oysters from Maine’s Damariscotta River and platters of lobster steamed in seaweed. It is a clam dinner, after all.

The wedding will be held on Saturday at 4pm in Summerland. The cake will be a five-tiered buttercream dream and there will be oysters from Emil’s down in Polpis Harbor.

Who is the creative team behind The perfect couple?

Emmy and Oscar winner Susanne Bier directs all six episodes and is executive producer along with showrunner Jenna Lamia (Good girls, No tomorrow, Unpleasant). Other executive producers on the miniseries include Shawn Levy for 21 Laps Entertainment (Stranger Things, Shadows and BonesAnd Unsolved mysteries), Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady for The Jackal Group, Kidman and Per Saari for Blossom Films and Josh Barry.

Was The perfect couple filmed on Nantucket?

For author Elin Hilderbrand, the most important thing about adapting her novel was that “Nantucket was done right,” she said. “Jenna was constantly calling and texting me with tiny questions about the mentions of Nantucket. I’m confident that anyone who is on Nantucket and any of my readers will get a real sense of the authenticity of Nantucket that comes across in my books.”

While Hilderbrand visited the set of the series, she waited to see The perfect couple with the rest of the world. “I’m really excited to see what Nantucket looks like,” she tells Tudum. “I wanted the essence of Nantucket, the kind of understated lightness and unpretentiousness of the place, to come across. And I’m sure that will work, because I’ve read the scripts.”

A New England native herself, Lamia was a huge fan of Hilderbrand’s books before working on the series. Her commitment to capturing the texture, colors and smells of a New England summer on Nantucket shaped her connection with Hilderbrand when they first met. “Capturing Nantucket would have been important for any series set there, but for an adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand, it’s a character,” she says. “It’s a main character. So we had to do her justice.”

The goal was to make the show look like “absolutely delicious candy,” says Lamia, resplendent in raspberry red and salmon pink. “It’s wealth that looks like it’s not trying hard.” Funnily enough, much of the series was actually filmed on Cape Cod in Chatham, Massachusetts, including the Winburys’ Summerland estate. “That was our home base, and we decorated it with blue hydrangeas,” says Lamia, who adds that they filmed much of the series in April.

But there were many things that production didn’t even have to touch. “There was one of the most beautiful sunsets we’d ever seen, and we just ran the camera the whole sunset and it ended up in the show,” she says. Since they were filming near Nantucket, “it didn’t take much to change it.”

Bier thanks Hilderbrand for her physical support in producing the series, acquiring locations and contacts on Cape Cod. “The whole world is all about finding the right structure,” she says. “It’s about the locations. It’s about the type of shoes. It’s about all the clothes. It’s about the food they eat for dinner. It’s about all these things that come together to create a sense of the world.”

Of course, filming also took place on Nantucket itself – the “parts that we couldn’t do anywhere else,” says Bier. These include the scenes in which they pass the bookstore where Greer’s latest Dash and Dolly The focus is on the novel and the bar where Greer meets police chief Dan Carter.
