Boise State was featured in the second installment. They returned when they hosted tiny Portland State late Saturday night. The Broncos brought out their pretty white helmets for the bright night lights. The blue Bronco logo has a chrome finish.

It gives the helmet a nice shine and also has a blue face mask. As always, the blue BSU jerseys with the enlarged numbers outlined in orange are nice. There are two stripes in gray and orange on the sleeves and the look is completed with white pants.

Oregon State also makes its second appearance on a list of best weekend uniforms. This Saturday they hosted Purdue in primetime television, and for the occasion the Beavers debuted an entirely new look.

For the first time, the school brought out gray uniforms. The jersey has a touch of orange around the armpits, shoulder stripes, nameplates and wordmarks above the numbers. The numbers are outlined in black. The beautiful white helmet with lettering is back and the pants have traditional stripes in orange and white.

Ole Miss is another team that makes a second appearance on this list. The Rebels are one of the many college football teams that are always on the cutting edge with their uniform designs and combinations. Last Saturday, they crushed Georgia Southern, wearing a combination of a red jersey, white helmet, and white pants.

However, in honor of Military Appreciation Week, the team decided to release a decal with their logo and the American flag design in it. This jazzes up the helmet a bit. It’s a solid and clean look that keeps the American patriotism to a minimum. Some teams have taken this idea a little too far in the past, resulting in subpar designs.

Western Kentucky has had one of the most popular helmet designs in recent years with its iconic mascot, “Big Red.” The mascot first appeared on a WKU helmet two years ago, depicting “Big Red” getting ready to throw a ball. Last year against Liberty, there were different variations of the mascot decal depending on the position of a player’s helmet.

However, they all wore black helmets. This is the first time they have used this decal on a white helmet. It looks just as good. Some may even like this version better than the black versions they have worn the last two years. Western Kentucky wore these over their red jerseys and pants against the Toledo Rockets.

The Sam Houston Bearkats have broken out some classic gear for their home game against New Mexico State. Last Saturday night, these uniforms were worn for the first time since the end of the 2004 season. They were originally worn from 1998 to 2004, a time that included longtime NFL walk-on Josh McCown.

The sides of the helmet read “Kats” in a slanted font reminiscent of the era. There is a size difference, however, as the original version had the same decal, just larger.

The jersey design remains largely the same. It’s a simple jersey, but it works. It’s all orange with traditional looking white numbers with blue outlines. The wordmark above the numbers is different, as the originals had the helmet decal as the wordmark.
