The moment Tom Brady made his NFL commentary debut was something special

Tom Brady has finally made it to national television โ€“ as a sportscaster, not as an NFL player.

The former New England Patriots quarterback made his commentary debut on Fox Sports on Sunday alongside Kevin Burkhardt. Brady will commentate on the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 1 game against the Cleveland Browns at 4:25 p.m. ET.

The 47-year-old completed a few practice runs as a co-commentator during the off-season, but on Sunday he was officially in the dressing room for the first time and commented on the plays.

This was the special moment when Brady was introduced live on television:

“We welcome you to the announcer’s booth,” Burkhardt said. “He’s Tom Brady and I’m Kevin Burkhardt. And you’re a commentator, how about that?”

“We’re here,” Brady replied. “It’s been quite a journey, but I’m happy to be your partner.”

Brady then made his first analytical comments as a sports reporter, answering a question about Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s NFL future after Prescott signed a new contract.

“Dak signed the biggest contract in NFL history, now he has to go out and earn it,” Brady said. “2023 was his best season, he’s just coming off of it, but going forward it’s going to depend on what happens in the postseason.”

Prescott and the Cowboys agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract extension on Sunday morning, ending a months-long negotiating saga in Dallas. Prescott, 31, enjoyed a career-high 2023 in which he rushed for over 4,500 yards and 36 touchdowns.

However, as Brady notes, Prescott’s biggest challenge may come in the playoffs, as the Cowboys haven’t reached an NFC Championship Game since 1995, the last year they won a Super Bowl. We’ll hear a lot more of Brady’s analysis on the Cowboys and Browns this afternoon.
